Shawl of joining.

I’ve been with Kevin almost as long as I’ve been knitting and I’ve known two things since pretty early on:
1. I wanted to marry him.
2. I wanted to knit a big, fancy wedding shawl.

Check, check!

We got married on May 10 at Norris Dam State Park in Tennessee. The wedding was everything I hoped it would be, a sweet celebration of the love we’ve shared over the first 12 years and a lot of hope for the future.

Now, let’s get down to business oh my crafty and knitty friends! Here’s the whole shawl, in one of the few places in my house I can lay it out.

This beauty is the Heliotaxis Pi Shawl by Renata Brenner. I used a 3.25 mm (US 3) needle as called for and the yarn is HiKoo by skacel, Merino Lace Light in the 1001 Frost colorway. I used about 83g of one skein. The only change I made was to add beads instead of knitting the nupps, using Miyuki Delica beads, size 8/0, color White Opal. I used a little less than one package, about 5g.

This was a long project, I estimate around 350 hours all together. Somehow, it wasn’t a slog though. The lace patterns and beads kept it interesting, even when rows were taking over an hour! I thoroughly enjoyed it and probably will knit another lacy, laceweight shawl in the future.

Anyway, back to the day of. When I put the shawl on, it was the finishing touch before I walked out the door and everyone just sighed. This will sound corny, but it really felt like the final piece clicking into place. My craft, my work, the coziness I’m always working on, draped across my shoulders.

The shawl really made the whole look feel like me. I’m so glad that I made it, it was a fun process, and definitley my proudest make ever. Add to that, that it’s the beautiful little touch in our photos and y’all, this is one happy knitter.

Happy making!
