I don’t know what it is, but I love pulling out my advent projects in the summer! Perhaps it’s that I’ve had them in hibernation so long, they feel fresh and new. Perhaps it’s the halfway slump of creativity in the year, and it’s nice to have projects already on the go. Either way, I’m here for it.
First up, I finished my scrappy socks! I started these last summer during advent in July. The yarn is the Oxide Fade Advent 2023 from Hue Loco, which I first used in my crochet granny shawl. I had quite a bit leftover, so in a surprise to nobody I made socks.

I’ve been working on the scrappy advent sock recipe for a while and never get it right, I always have to use a ton of the main skein to finish them and I don’t love that look – see some older advent socks as an example:

These, though, I feel like I got these right. The biggest difference is using the main skein for the cuff. I then knit 5 row stripes with each mini and voila! A pretty good striped sock, if you ask me. I love how it almost doesn’t look striped, the fade is soooo good.
The only thing about these, is they STILL didn’t use up all this yarn. I don’t usually worry about scraps so much, but with this being a fade and some really dark and saturated colors, it doesn’t fit any of my scrap or blanket plans. This led me to a big decision on my 2024 advent project…

Which is also complete! I bound this sucker off this weekend and it feels pretty good. I have no idea where I’ll block it, but we’ll figure something out. This is the Anthology Throw by Helen Stuart and the yarn is the Botanical Fade Advent 2024 from Hue Loco.

Anyway, we were talking scraps. Knowing this was another fade and not knowing what the colors would look like, I picked a project to use every single bit of each mini, and it worked! I’ve got about a sock’s worth of the main skein left and two ends weave in – I magic knotted each new yarn as I added it. She’s off to the baths for now!
It’s so satisfying to finish projects, great and small, that have been on the go for a while. I’m off to pull another out of the WIP pile!
Happy making!
