Christmas in… whatever.

Last summer, I pulled out an old yarn advent that was languishing in stash and decided to do something with it. The result was a bit of an advent in July project that I really enjoyed.

I enjoyed the minis, the colors, and the feeling of satisfaction of using up this beautiful advent from Woolberry Fiber Co (2020).

Fast forward to today, and I’ve been itching to get back to advent in July. I’ve done a bit of hemming and hawing about what I work on for the next two weeks until I can start, and then I recalled that I’m the boss of my making and I can start whenever I want.

This sweet little pile is my advent/christmas WIP pile.

The first is the leftover main skein from that 2020 Woolberry Fiber Co advent – I wanted to use up the rest of it so, socks it is. The heel is a mini from Stress Knits.

Next up in the sock world, I started these to use up the leftovers from my 2023 advent calendar. This isn’t going to finish it off so we’ll see what the last little bits and bobs turn into, but these gradient socks are pretty cool. Yarn is the 2023 Hue Loco Oxide Fade Advent.

In more recent news, I’ve really been itching to get my hands back on this Anthology Throw by Curious Handmade. The yarn is from last year – the 2024 Hue Loco Botanical Fade Advent. I am using every bit of every mini on this project!

Finally, this was a cheeky little cast on I started during the holidays last year and I can’t wait to wear it this winter. The pattern is Perennial by Lisa K Ross and the yarn, you guessed it, is from Hue Loco – this is the Sexy Christmas mini set that’s been kicking it in my stash for years now.

I really love advent and mini skein knitting – especially a simple project that stays fresh because of all the color changes. It even makes it worth it weaving in all those ends. Anyway, happy Christmas in July, or whenever you’re celebrating!

Happy making!

  1. I think a summer “advent” is a great idea. December is always so busy although I do enjoy opening up a daily mini skein as part of the festivities. I have often thought of rewrapping some of my summer color mini skeins to create a summer “advent” of sorts. I also like the idea of “bagging” some of my sock skeins into monthly/bimonthly bags to work on throughout the year. But I’m really bad at schedules so instead I just have a list of projects I want to knit. I just keep working through the list as I complete projects.

    1. I am also bad at schedules and keeping up with long challenges. Life happens, my creativity goes in different directions. I’m trying to just keep slowly working through things – it’s a process but we got this! πŸ™‚
