One stitch at a time.

I’ll just come out and say it – I’m getting married! We’re tying the knot in May, just a few months away now.

Of course, the first question that a lot of folks ask me is whether I’m making anything for the wedding and… of course I am! I am making my dress, a tie for Kevin, and a shawl.

We got engaged at Thanksgiving and it didn’t even take me a day to start looking up shawl patterns. I knew what I had in mind (circular, big, lace) and that it would be a time intensive project. I didn’t delay long on choosing the pattern and found the yarn even faster.

I chose this beautiful pure white fine lace yarn and ordered an extra skein because for this project, definitely better safe than sorry. I cast it on before Christmas solely so that I could show it to my crafty family members while we were visiting.

It was incredibly fiddly to get started. Even just putting it down and picking it back would cause me to drop stitches at the beginning. I managed to get through that first bit and moved up to a bigger circular:

and a bigger circular:

and a bigger circular:

And this is where I am today. I’m almost done with the fourth of six total charts, but really only 10-15% in. Circular shawls are weird that way. I know it doesn’t look like much now but this is the Heliotaxis Pi Shawl by Renata Brenner. I’m using a 3.25 mm (US 3) needle as called far and the yarn is HiKoo by skacel, Merino Lace Light in the 1001 Frost colorway. It’s a big, lacy, behemoth of a project.

This shawl is definitely part of my #yearofslow – a pattern row takes me a good half hour already! It’s taking a lot of focus and patience and that’s a big departure in my shawl knitting ways. I am enjoying the process a lot more than I expected, it’s very satisfying.

Happy making!
