Revival.

It’s a new year, so how about a new look, a new post, and a new challenge (or two)? My creative mojo is soaring these days, so I thought it would be a great time to refresh and revitalize the blog. I’ve given things a bit of a face lift around here which feels nice.

As per usual in the early stages of the year I’m thinking of a theme, thinking of challenges, thinking of fresh ideas. I’m still noodling on the theme but let’s talk about a challenge!

Early in December, I was doing my usual knitting but was longing to cast on some Christmas socks. I have some beautiful holiday themed yarn that I just never get around to. I’ve seen others create sock clubs for themselves, so that’s what I did! I started by winding everything up, which definitely took a hot minute.

Once all the yarn was ready to go at a moment’s notice, I placed them all into reusable bags. The yarns are different weights so I noted the needles size on the tags. I wanted these to be grab and go.

Now, they’re all sitting with up on a shelf waiting for me to pick one at random. That’s where the challenge comes in – I’ll pick one each month and knit that pair of socks by the end of the month.

I’ve gotten a bit of head start, but hey, it’s my challenge so my rules! I wanted a simple project to take along on our holiday road trip, something I could knit while hanging out with family – you know that has to be socks for me! I pulled one bag out and cast them on and I am loving them so far!

I finished the first one on New Year’s Eve and now I’m just knitting away on the second. This yarn is Three by the Sea Designs in the Christmas Island colorway – I love the way it’s knitting up!

Well that’s it for today. I’ve got a few other things cooking around here that I can’t wait to share along the way. It feels good to revive some of my favorite things: blogging, challenges, and socks.

Happy making!

  1. What a beautiful and fantastic idea!!! Love your bags. Where did you get them? I probably would have “cheated” and organized them by season. Someday when I get done with my sweater phase, I want to go to monthly sock knitting. But I don’t really have a use for that many socks. Fortunately now my stepdaughter is loving the socks I’ve knit for her so that would help. Need to get her hubby to try some.

    1. Thanks! I ordered the bags from Amazon and used them for this project and as some sustainable wrapping material for the holidays. Bonus that the ties are not loops so there’s no little one choking hazard!
